Straight Ahead

In Psalm 25:10, David says that “following God’s loving and faithful ways” is the best way to live. The principle is the same in the new covenant; we express our love for God by submitting to His ways in obedience. John 14:21. I’ve had trouble this week putting together thoughts for a new entry. I knew exactly what the problem was but couldn’t verbalize it very well. Then today, Saturday, as I searched the Scriptures, I finally landed in Proverbs 4:20 through 4:27 and realized why. I haven’t guarded my heart, the wellspring of life, where one’s thinking becomes corrupted when not guarded.. My commitment to the Lord was and is to make level paths for my feet and take only ways that are firm. When I swerve to the right or the left, I fall into evil. (thoughts, words, attitudes) So I was reminded once again that I MUST NOT swerve to the right or to the left, always paying attention to what God’s Word says, keeping it within my heart - For they are life to those who find them. My prayer is to keep my eyes looking straight ahead fixing my gaze on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of my faith.

Holiness

Psalm l0l: vs 2 "I will try to walk a blameless path, but how I need your help.."
Holiness is to be the hallmark of the Christian's life. It isn't enough to know the truth, we must search for practical ways to implement that truth in our daily decisions. May holiness and purity be the focus of our lives. May our committment to holiness filter down to affect our reading habits, our TV viewing, our choice of friends, our selection of leisure time activities and integrity at work. Holiness in personal and professional life isn't a one-time decision, but a daily pursuit. Blameless behaviour.....a blameless heart.....a blameless walk with God = the goal of the Christian life.

The Secret of Happiness

Psalm 1 describes the secret of happiness: it's simply this: "be careful where you sit, be consistent when you soak." Something to be avoided if you want to be happy - "the lifestyle of the ungodly." Beware of walking, standing or sitting like those around you who have no time for God. Walking speaks of making everyday decisions: standing is a picture of more lasting committments: sitting refers to established attitudes and patterns of life. People who have found the secret of happiness reject the choices, committments and convictions of the ungodly. Truly happy people are those who "delight in doing everything God wants them to and day and night are always meditating on His laws and thinking about ways to follow Him more closely. The more they "soak up" and meditate on the Word, the more they grow into a beautiful and fruitful tree to God's glory. May we who profess Christ be well rooted in God's Word, soaking up its truth so that it would overflow into our daily lives.
